About Me

I'm Greg Day 68 years young and have spent my entire working life in the motor trade, starting out as an apprentice motor mechanic before moving into driving trucks, road trains and various types of  earthmoving equipment. This has given me decades of practical experience in vehicle operation, towing, maintenance and real-world reliability.

Twelve years ago, I established Caravans and Trailers with my family. There we sold, built and serviced a wide range of caravans and trailers. I also contracted to government organisations including TAFE and local councils, advising, designing, building and maintaining their trailers and managing ongoing compliance requirements such as safety checks, electrical test and tag, and equipment servicing. During this time I built a strong reputation for honest advice and dependable workmanship.

I’m also a long-time caravaner myself and have travelled Australia at every opportunity, from using a simple swag through to towing caravans and operating a three-axle motorhome — and just about everything in between. That real-life experience shapes the way I approach every job, with a strong focus on safety, towing setup, and what truly matters on the road.

Through Know Your Caravan, my focus is on the mechanical condition and safety of caravans and trailers. I specialise in the critical components that affect roadworthiness and towing performance — suspension, braking systems, load setup, and overall mechanical integrity.

My aim is to provide practical, independent advice backed by a lifetime in the industry, helping owners and buyers make informed decisions and avoid costly or unsafe mistakes. I take pride in giving straightforward guidance you can trust and ensuring your caravan or trailer is mechanically sound and ready for the road.

In addition I am a qualified Driving Instructor holding a Certificate 4 - Driver Trainer. Towing a caravan or large trailer for the first time can be a daunting experience. In many ways I feel it can take as much skill and knowledge as driving a semi trailer yet no prior training is legally required. Why not spend a little time and money to get some instruction.
